Advanced International Protocol Course

Advanced International Protocol Course from The Protocol School of Washington

Plan for Your Success:

Implementing effective protocol requires comprehensive protocol knowledge, highly developed situational awareness, and exceptional inter-personal skills.  In today’s international business, military, and diplomatic worlds, the protocol professional needs to not only deliver services, but also adapt protocol processes with an understanding of both local and global cultural traditions.  Depth of knowledge is essential to deliver official events that are successful and effective on a wide variety of levels: managerial, economic, strategic, and social.  For the individual, these skills enable him or her to not only advance their own career, but to become a thought-leader in their organization and community.  For an organization, having world-class personnel in key positions advances a consistent on-message public image to the community, the region, and the world.

Course Pre-requisite: To attend the Advanced International Protocol Course, one must be a graduate of either International Protocol Manager Training or Protocol Officer Training.

Expert instruction, guided exercises, case studies and team building exercises provide an ideal learning experience.  Participants will gain the ability to better understand how to effectively communicate with people of diverse cultural backgrounds through cross-cultural communication and diplomacy.  Interactive classroom activities provide techniques and strategies on how to be a trusted advisor and influential leader within an organization.  Focusing on the different ways to view an event enhances the participant’s ability to create an excellent guest experience.  Segments on specific protocol topics will build on the foundations presented in the pre-requisite course on international flags and ceremonies.  Interactive classroom case studies prepare participants to confidently apply protocol principles to complex global protocol situations and media relations.

Professionals who have a foundational knowledge will advance their competency in successfully managing complex events and delivering world-class protocol.  A protocol professional is called upon to lead a team to create events of outstanding merit. Participants in this training will learn effective leadership skills to achieve this success consistently.  Additionally, they will achieve future success through awareness of cross-cultural sensitivities, and detailed knowledge of high-profile protocol issues and support functions.  Sessions devoted to protocol topics will emphasize universally accepted practices, social customs, courtesies, rights and dignities of individuals, groups, and nations.  The foundations of protocol (e.g., precedence, seating, titles & forms of address, gifts, flags, logistics, etc.) will be reinforced in case studies designed to highlight the problems that arise in real-world situations.
